The Public Knowledge Project

"The Public Knowledge Project is dedicated to improving the scholarly and public quality of research. It operates through a partnership among the Faculty of Education at the University of British Columbia, the Simon Fraser University Library, the School of Education at Stanford University, and the Canadian Centre for Studies in Publishing at Simon Fraser University. The partnership brings together faculty members, librarians, and graduate students dedicated to exploring whether and how new technologies can be used to improve the professional and public value of scholarly research. Its research program is investigating the social, economic, and technical issues entailed in the use of online infrastructure and knowledge management strategies to improve both the scholarly quality and public accessibility and coherence of this body of knowledge in a sustainable and globally accessible form. It continues to be an active player in the open access movement, as it provides the leading open source software for journal and conference management and publishing. The research and publishing activities of the project have been reviewed and cited in Inside Higher Ed, Nature, New England Journal of Medicine, Science, The Scientist and others"

The Online Author’s Survival Guide

The Online Author’s Survival Guide, by Kivmars Bowling
Senior Managing Editor, Compass Journals, Wiley-Blackwell.

Very clear and useful text. I like very much with the proposal about sharing the links to the text published by using environments as Second Life. This procedure seems specially adequate when the topics covered by our texts are related to virtual environments.I did not know that Wiley-Blackwell has a place at this Virtual World. This allows you to be teleported to there.

The Who’s Who in Research series

Who's Who in Research series acts as a guide to acdemics in subject areas of Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Media Studies, Cultural Studies and Film Studies. Each volume focuses on a particular subject area and gives details of researchers’ principal and bibliographic information as well as a list of articles published in Intellect journals. The volumes – which will be updated annually – provide the most up-to-date information on the foremost innovative thinkers in academia. As such we welcome other publishers to join the project by providing their journal contributors’ details for inclusion in future editions of each volume."

This new Journal is edited by Elif Ayiter (Sabanci University) and Yacov Sharir (University of Texas, at Austin). From here congratulations to both for such a wonderfull work.Specially, my recognisement to Elif Ayiter.

The articles you can read in this first number of Metaverse Creativity are:

Cyber-archaeology and metaverse collaborative systems, by Maurizio Forte and Gregorij Kurillo
For a critical perspective of the value of web art, by Claudia Sandoval
Using 2D photography as a 3D constructional tool within the metaverse, by Murat Germen
Epoch of plasticity: The metaverse as a vehicle for cognitive enhancement, by Natasha Vita-More

Virtual puppet, my love impossible, by Semi Ryu

With these interesting articles, there is one I made and titled: Brainflowing, virtual/physical space and the flow of communication: An explanatory approach to the metaverse through a tool designed for brainstorming. On it I try to identify the mainstream characteristics of Virtual Environments (in this case, Second Life), by describing the actions undertaken in the design process of brainflowing, created with Akemy Mochizuki (Draceina Pinion avatar). By considering Second Life as a flow of communication and as a space for communicating, I identify which of the actions performed are more related to one or to another dimension of this Virtual Environment.

From this Intellect webpage, "Brainflowing, virtual/physical space and the flow of communication: An explanatory approach to the metaverse through a tool designed for brainstorming"can be accessed by free

Note 1: This volume 1, issue 1 can be accessed, by free from intellect website

Note 2: Brainflowing has a symbolic price of 2000 linden Dollars, which are equivalent to $5.28, £4.68 or €5.52, and it is available in Dracy´s Virtual Shop, http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Zerelia/227/99/74, the shop that Akemi Mochizuki has in Second Life.

Audiovisual Thinking

Audiovisual Thinking. The Journal of Academic Videos

As they state

"Society has changed radically due technological changes in audiovisual mediation and new digital tools/platforms. Video is becoming a central part of our everyday life and communication, as well as a valuable tool for researchers to share their results, insights and engage with the academic and other communities. Academics have many different forms of media for expressing ourselves, for example text, audio and images. These different media have different strengths and weaknesses. Traditionally, academic dissemination and debate have relied very much on the written text. But now, audio and images should be embraced by the academic world, not because it is better than the written word, but because video can say things differently".

The SCImago Journal & Country Rank

As they explain:

"The SCImago Journal & Country Rank is a portal that includes the journals and country scientific indicators developed from the information contained in the Scopus® database (Elsevier B.V.). These indicators can be used to assess and analyze scientific domains. This platform takes its name from the SCImago Journal Rank (SJR) indicator, developed by SCImago from the widely known algorithm Google PageRank™. This indicator shows the visibility of the journals contained in the Scopus® database from 1996 (...)

As well as SJR Portal, SCImago has developed The Atlas of Science project, which proposes the creation of an information system whose major aim is to achieve a graphic representation of IberoAmerican Science Research. Such representation is conceived as a collection of interactive maps, allowing navigation functions throughout the semantic spaces formed by the maps".
